REGULATIONS:
1.
Only films in 16mm, 35mm, or video
format with composite optical sound
tracks will be considered for presentation.
2.
All films must have been completed
after January 1, 2003.
3.
Films must be presented in their original
language with English language subtitles
for purposes of participation in the event.
PROCEDURES:
Complete and sign the entry form and
enclose it with a labeled 1/2" NTSC or PAL
video tape or DVD. Tapes will not be
returned. Please also include a one-page
plot synopsis, complete cast and crew list
(credits), director's biography and 1 or 2
b&w or color stills from the film. All entries
must be accompanied by the appropriate
entry fee.
ENTRY FEE:
Entry fees are $30 for short films and $40 for
feature films and feature documentaries.
Entry fees are to be made payable to NIFF by
check or money order. Foreign entries should
be drawn on money orders in U.S. dollars.
FILM LENGTH DEFINITION:
Feature films and documentaries: 60
minutes or longer; short films: 30 minutes or less.
We ask that you try to conform to these lengths
to aid our task of scheduling film screenings. If
your film runs between 30 and 60 minutes,
please contact the Programming Director at
programming@newportfilmfestival.com
for permission to submit.
DEADLINES:
Festival entries must be received by March 1,
2004. If accepted, film prints are due no later
than June 1, 2004.
NOTIFICATION OF RECEIPT:
If you wish a reply of receipt, please include a self-
addressed stamped postcard with your mailing.
NOTIFICATION OF SELECTION:
Films are selected and invited to be shown at
NIFF by the Festival Director, Programming
Director and screening committee.
Notification of acceptance will be determined
by April 26, 2004.
SHIPPING:
NIFF will provide return shipping only.
INSURANCE:
All selected films at NIFF will be insured during the
period that they are in the Festival's possession.
TRAVEL AND HOSPITALITY:
It is NIFF's intention to provide, within its budget,
travel and accommodation for each filmmaker
whose work is selected to attend. However,
given certain restraints, acceptance to NIFF in
no way guarantees that the festival will pay for
or reimburse the travel or housing costs of each
filmmaker.
COMPETITION AND AWARDS:
A panel of jurists comprised of filmmaker and
professionals in the various fields of cinema will
award the Festival's Best First-time Feature
Filmmaker, Best Documentary, Best
Documentary Short, Best Narrative Short and
the Claiborne Pell Award for Original Vision.
Audience Awards will also be presented.
