As conductor and music director of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra for over 25
years, Yoshimi Takeda worked constantly to enrich our musical life. He was a
frequent visitor to WMUK, believing our classical music broadcasts to be an
important cultural resource for the area. He supported our mission with his time,
energy and encouragement, and often stopped by to share his excitement and about
upcoming KSO programs or to explore our library and study rare recordings.
Because of our close relationship with him, we are pleased to provide an opportunity
to recognize Maestro Takeda's many contributions to the artistic life of our
community through the naming of the "Yoshimi Takeda Performance Studio" at
WMUK. This showcase facility will record and broadcast performances by local
and visiting artists from around the world. It will also serve as WMUK's main
public gathering place and volunteer center. Naming this studio for Yoshimi Takeda
will provide an enduring acknowledgement of his numerous contributions to our
region's artistic life and the legacy of outreach he established.
In designing this studio to be named in his honor we intend to create a unique
ambience designed to facilitate intimate artistic expression. If you would like to be a
part of this exciting project, or wish to have more information, phone us at 387-5719.
