Who Develops the Profile of the Ideal Incoming Class?
·
The person who develops the profile of the ideal incoming class is slightly
different for each college and program, and 17 percent of those interviewed
mentioned that it s a team effort of a committee that includes the deans, some
faculty members, and admission offices. However, 70 percent of those
interviewed mentioned that the dean is the most likely person to
develop the profile. The second and the third most likely are faculty
members (21 percent) and admissions officers (12 percent).
·
At some institutions, each individual department develops its own student
profile.
·
Not all schools prepare student profiles. Twelve percent of the deans and
presidents report that schools don t prepare any student profile to limit the
sources of potential applicants.
·
Many of the deans and presidents were in agreement about who develops the
profile of the ideal incoming class. Most of them cited the dean as the one
who develops the profile of the ideal incoming class.
·
Notably, there is some discrepancy regarding the decision power of the
presidents. Fourteen percent of presidents interviewed identified themselves
as the one who develops the profile, while none of the deans thought that the
presidents participated in this kind of activity.
