and presidents mentioned the fact that Peterson s has an Internet site. Many
of the respondents did not seem to know the function of Peterson s other than
their publications.
Verbatim comments from the deans and the presidents:
ÒThey publish a guide that was traditionally utilized as a general information
source. Now it is less used because of the Internet. We use their minimal level
of service.Ó
ÒI donÕt know a whole lot. Students are using the Internet a lot more now.Ó
ÒWe advertise in it (PetersonÕs book). I have seen the guides, but I am not
familiar with what they do other than publications.
ÔÓWe use them, but I think they have lost some of their impact. Incoming classes
use the Internet services more today than anything else.Ó
ÒPetersonÕs publishes how to magazines for students trying to get into graduate
school. They take advertisements for the various schools and give descriptions of
the schools.Ó

It seems that the annual survey on the institutions that is sent by Peterson s
becomes a way to promote the name of Peterson s, at least to enforce and
refresh the memory of the deans and the presidents about the name of
Peterson s. Most of the deans referenced to the survey they fill out once a
year and send back to Peterson s to update their lists. The majority of
answers regarding the surveys were positive, besides some negative
comments.
Verbatim comments from the deans and the presidents:
ÒPetersonÕs is a guide. They bother us once a year to fill out their survey. We do
it out of respect, but again, we have best results by word of mouth.Ó
ÒWe fill out their survey every year. We have their guides on hand. They have a
prominent name for prospective students. They are very helpful. The guides are
easy to use.Ó
ÒThey send a survey every year to fill out. We fill it out and return it to PetersonÕs
each year. The prices are much too high.Ó
ÒWe fill out the survey they send us every year, and they print out the information
in our booklet. They have an outstanding reputation in our area.Ó
