needed to perform at least minimally in the occupational role. Each student is given a reasonable number
of opportunities to meet the minimum standards of performance established by the learning objectives.
Evaluation of student performance is made during various practical exercises. Performance will be
judged by the student's actual ability to satisfactorily complete the required tasks.
The Center encourages students to repeat the practical exercise portions of their training until mastery
is achieved. Accordingly, a student who does not achieve mastery in any of these tasks is not placed on
probation. However, if the student cannot demonstrate the ability to satisfactorily perform the tasks prior
to the completion of the program, a certificate will not be awarded.
In addition to practical exercises in many specific areas, the student is required to successfully
complete a final "single thread" practical exercise that lasts for three entire training days. The student,
assigned to an investigative team, will be assigned a particular problem in which the tasks learned in prior
training will be tested. Once assigned the problem, the student will employ techniques acquired in
interviewing, surveillance, execution of search and arrest warrants, crime scene investigation, and
testifying at trial. Grades will be based on the student's performance. In addition, each team member must
contribute to a written case report documenting each individual's actions as well as the actions of the team
in acquiring evidence during the exercise. The case report will be used as the basis for the mock trial and
related court hearings pursuant to the trial.
Firearms Training
Marksmanship is evaluated on a point system. Each student must qualify with a minimum of 70% on the
Practical Pistol Course. A student who does not achieve a satisfactory level of proficiency on the Practical
Pistol Course (210 points out of 300 points = 70%) will be offered the opportunity to participate in
remedial training to correct the deficiency. The total amount of scheduled firearms remedial training
offered to a student will not exceed eight hours and two retests. Failure to qualify on this course will
preclude the student from successful completion of the training program.
FINAL EXAM
The following is the final exam for the Criminal Investigator Training Program, the "single thread"
exercise referred to earlier. The student who successfully completes this exam along with firearms
training and physical training is exceedingly well equipped to enter the field as an effective Criminal
Investigator.

DESCRIPTION:
This graded practical exercise requires the student to demonstrate acceptable knowledge and proficiency
in a variety of criminal investigative skills, procedures, and techniques in which training was received
previously in the program. Under the scrutiny of faculty evaluators, the student teams will conduct a
complete criminal investigation that will culminate in a realistic mock trial in which students will testify
