Student Evaluation
The Criminal Investigator Training Program cognitive testing system consists of five examinations: three
legal examinations and two comprehensive examinations. In addition, the student is expected to
satisfactorily complete a series of practical exercises and/or homework assignments. Satisfactory
completion of all examinations, practical exercises, and assignments is required for graduation from the
Criminal Investigator Training Program.
Written Examinations
The student is required to achieve a score of at least 70% on each of the five written examinations. The
student is allocated a total of one hour and 45 minutes to complete each examination. Immediately
following each examination, a 15-minute examination review is conducted, allowing the students to
assess their performance on the examination. Official results of examinations are posted as soon as
possible after the completion of the examination. Each individual student's grade is maintained in
confidentiality as far as fellow classmates are concerned. Student examination scores are available to the
student's agency through official channels.
In the event that a student fails to achieve a score of at least 70% on any written examination, the student
will be placed on probation. During this period, additional assistance will be made available to the student, upon
request, in the form of counseling, out-of-class study assignments, and personal instructional sessions. The
student will then take a remedial examination covering the same subjects as the original failed examination.
The student must successfully pass this remedial examination to remain eligible for graduation.
A student may be placed on probation for failing a regularly scheduled examination on only two
occasions. In the event that a student fails a third regularly scheduled examination (or fails to achieve a
passing score on any remedial examination), the student will not be eligible for graduation from the
Criminal Investigator Training Program.
Practical Exercises
The second component of the CITP evaluation system is the measurement of physical skills acquired
during training. A student must satisfactorily complete all phases of the practical exercises to successfully
complete the training program.
The practical exercises are designed to provide the student with as much individual attention and
instruction as possible. This area involves the development of psychomotor skills and the basic knowledge
