Writing an Effective Essay
1. Know your audience. You would more than likely use a different tone,
vocabulary, and examples for artists than for engineers.
2. Be yourself. Let your hopes, dreams, or goals shine through.
Remember that the scholarship selection committee wants to know you
better.
3. Make sure that you can summarize your essay into one sentence. This is
your main point or thesis of your writing.
4. Develop an interesting introduction and conclusion. Grab the reader's
attention right away and leave him or her with something dynamic at the
end.
5. Be creative. Think outside of the box. Come up with an original strategy.
6. Be concise and clear. More is not always better and succinctness does
pay off.
7. Edit and proofread. Use your time to create a masterpiece. Ask your
parents, teachers, or friends to help you in this final step.
