How Wise?
1.
Janet cooked pasta. [active] Rewritten as:
The pasta was
cooked by Janet.
2.
The walls were painted by students. [passive] Rewritten
as:
The students painted the walls.
3.
The car was given to me by my parents. [passive] Rewrit-
ten as:
My parents gave me the car.
4.
The dog peed on the fire hydrant. [active] Rewritten as:
The fire hydrant was peed on by the dog.
5.
The flowers were arranged by a professional florist.
[passive] Rewritten as:
The professional florist arranged the flowers.
I will be spoken to by friends and teachers
tomorrow after I'm driven to school by the
piece-of-junk car.
And for fun, try speaking in all passive voice for a day--don't
let yourself use active voice. You'll see how frustrating it is when
you can't make your point directly, which will help you get how
much better the active voice sounds.
