New Series 07/08
THE WORKING WORLD FOR YOUNG ADULTS
(LIFE SKILLS SERIES)
Today's young workers will need to be even more dedicated to
compete successfully in a global marketplace. Poor work ethics,
a careless regard for customer satisfaction and lack of a
commitment to the job will only lead to a troubled work history
and unhappy careers. Discover what makes a person successful
in a job as well as important ways to improve success in the
world of work.
Work Ethic: A Commitment to Work
In this program for young adults, beginning wage earners learn
the importance of a strong work ethic and its relation to their
success. Real world location settings that highlight active young
workers supported with expert commentaries help reinforce
the concepts.
Customer Service: An Attitude Not An Occupation
The bottom line for any position is keeping the client happy. In
this age appropriate program young earners see first hand what
makes for good customer service and bad customer service.
Once they're on the job, they learn the importance of putting
the golden rule for customer service into action.
Why Work?
Work is a life long journey and many experts suggest that the
sooner you begin the better. Unless you are independently
wealthy or lucky at Lotto, you are going to be working for most
of your adult life. In this program, viewers learn that when you
commit to your job, career advancement, job satisfaction and
a sense of fulfillment will follow.
The Global Marketplace: How Will You Compete?
In this new and up-to-date program, young workers learn the
importance of the global marketplace. As workers, they will be
required to compete for employment with people of different
nationalities from all over the world.
Beyond the Page Series
Grade(s) K - 3: Award-winning children's literature comes
alive at Shelley's "Beyond the Page Cafe," a multimedia envi-
ronment for kids where enthusiastic youngsters follow their
imaginations and experience books from the inside out.
Civics, Citizenship and You!
Grade level 9-12: Guerrilla Guide to Politics is a fun, high en-
ergy, content rich program to engage young people in their re-
sponsibilities and power as citizens of our representative
democracy. Using music, graphics and attractive hosts, Guerrilla
Guide delivers all the information a student needs to know to
vote, contact their representatives and stay on top of issues.
Grade level 4 9: Facts of Congress is a series of 30 animated
shorts that are fun, high energy, content rich programs to
engage students about facts, history and operations of our
Congress and citizenship. The programs deliver lots of
information about representation, legislators and their place in
our government.
Grade level 4 6: Citizen Brain is a fun, high energy, content
rich program to engage late elementary age students on the
qualities and facts of our representative democracy. Using
music, graphics, attractive hosts both adult and young teen
and a funny, animated character (Citizen Brain himself), the
program delivers lots of information about representation,
legislators and their place in our government.
Understanding The Constitution
Grade(s) 4 - 8: This four program series clarifies how and why
the delegates to the Constitutional Convention created a three-
branch system of government. Students gain a behind the
scenes perspective as actors playing James Madison and
Alexander Hamilton explain the rationale for each branch, and
the concepts of the separation of powers, checks & balances
and sharing of powers. The programs trace how the Presidency,
the Congress, and the Supreme Court work, using examples
from history.
· Correlates to key Social Studies Curriculum Standards in all
states, in both U.S. History and Government/Citizenship
· Strong instructional design comes from the device of a vir-
tual tour of the Federal Government, allowing scenes to
switch from contemporary to historical eras
· The on-camera hosts talks to students in a tone suited to
their understanding; the host further complements the age
appropriate script.
· Captions and graphic diagrams aid students' understanding
and retention of key facts and concepts about the
Constitution.
