S.T.U.D.I.E.S. Summer Program
Schools have a requirement for frequent data collection and analysis. A new
technology has emerged to fill this need: the student response system, or SRS. Many
companies have developed student response systems that instantly collect and display
information from students' handheld units. The data can drive class discussions, assess
student progress, and guide curriculum decisions.
The purpose of this grant is to support the implementation of a new data
collection tool, the student response system. The S.T.U.D.I.E.S. program will be a three-
day summer workshop for twelve teachers, two from each grade level (K-5), to learn to
use the SRS handheld units and the accompanying software program for data collection.
Teachers will develop a plan to create common grade level assessments utilizing the SRS
program, as well as a strategy for coaching their colleagues on the use of data to impact
instruction and student achievement.
