Teachers Soar High with SMART Board Integration
This grant project will expand upon our current professional learning communities
(PLC's) designed to enhance the teaching and learning environment. Teachers who
currently use SMART Board technology will serve as SMART Board peer coaches for
colleagues and assist their peers in identifying SMART Board tools and strategies that
will strengthen classroom curriculum and enhance student achievement. Teachers will
work collaboratively to reflect upon and revise the strategies and technology they design
and implement in the classrooms. Mini-training workshops will be offered to new
teachers interested in using a Smartboard in the classroom. A collection of best practices
and video segments will be created and posted on a teacher website for other teachers in
the consortium to adopt. Our ultimate goal is to create a professional development model
that will enhance standards-based instruction by assisting teachers in creating engaging,
technology rich, learning activities.

Kids Shouldn't Have All the Fun!
Instructional Technology Coordinators (ITC's) will conduct a technology "summer
camp" for 12 of their teachers. They will show teachers how various technology tools
and software can be used to differentiate and enhance existing Arlington Public Schools
curriculum. In addition to workshops about technology, teachers will also participate in
several fun "camp" activities. Topics that will be covered during camp are: Digital
storytelling using Photo Story and Movie Maker, Unitedstreaming, Podcasting, Web 2.0
tools, creating games using PowerPoint and SMART Board use. At the end of camp,
teachers will be entered into a raffle to win a mini podcasting kit. One teacher from each
school will win a kit. The kit contains an Apple iPod Nano and a recordable microphone.
The podcasting kit will be used to make podcasts and to record narrations that can be
used in presentations.
