North TIER Professional Development Grants January 2007
Enhancing Students' Writing and Learning Utilizing Digital Storytelling
This professional development proposal is a collaborative effort between two schools
within the North Tier Consortium. Teachers from Chancellor Elementary and Wilderness
Elementary will participate in a pilot study: (1) to increase student learning of SOL
curriculum, (2) to improve students' writing skills by motivating reluctant writers, such
as ESOL and LD students, using universal design, (3) to improve teachers' awareness
and knowledge of a variety of educational technologies, and (4) to provide the
participants opportunities to increase their professional growth in technology integration.

Work SMARTer Not Harder! Using SMART Boards to Differentiate Instruction
Instructional Technology Coordinators (ITC's) Heather Hurley and Wendy Heller would
like to provide a collaborative training for teachers who want more in depth training on
how to use the SMART Board to differentiate instruction. Five teachers from ATS and
five from Key School will be trained on using the SMART Board to differentiate
instruction. These trainings will consist of four 2 hour workshops. Our focus will be on
using the SMART Board to address various multiple intelligences. In addition to the
training, teachers will have uninterrupted time to collaboratively write lesson plans.
These plans will be shared with the larger school community through an online
Blackboard site. Teachers will receive training, a resource book and be entered into a
raffle to win a digital camera. This camera can be used to make SMART Board lessons.
One teacher from each school will win a camera.
