Section I. Underwriting Parameters
I. Approval of Underwriting Announcements
MHz NETWORKS requires a minimum of 14 days advance submission for approval of underwriting
credits. To have an underwriter credit reviewed, you must have both a written script (English
translation for non-English programs) and either the video or storyboard of the potential
underwriter. MHz NETWORKS will evaluate the potential credit and will inform you of its decision. If
there are violations, the Independent Producer Coordinator will inform you of the problems and
offer suggestions for correcting the spots.
MHz NETWORKS encourages all producers to start early with the production of credits. Start with
the ideal of how you want to make the spot look and what you want it to say. Submit your script to
the Independent Producer Coordinator before you spend the money and time to produce the
credit.
Underwriter spots made without prior MHz NETWORKS approval are produced at the sole financial
risk of the program producer and/or funder. MHz NETWORKS will either edit the announcement and
charge you an editing fee or reject the program.
II. Underwriter Standard Openings, Length and Placement
Underwriting Standard Opening
All programs must make one of the following opening statements (or some other pre-approved
statement) before the underwriter break begins. This can be done either visually or audibly. This
opening is not considered part of the underwriter break.
1. "This program has been made possible in part by..."
2. "This program has been made possible by the generous support of..."
3. "This edition of "*program name*" has been made possible by..."
4. "Funding for this program was provided by..."
Underwriter Length and Placement
Underwriters placed in the "beginning" must be placed right before or after the opening credits of
the program. No program content should come before this break. Underwriters placed in the "end"
must be placed right before the closing credits or immediately following the closing credits. No
program content should follow this underwriter.
1. A maximum of :30 for a single underwriter. MHz NETWORKS will consider :60 spots on a
case by case basis. The spot must still follow all of the guidelines regarding underwriting
content presented in this manual.
2. No more than 1:30 of underwriters per break.
3. A maximum of 2 breaks for a half-hour show. The breaks must be placed in the beginning
(or as close to the beginning as possible) and the end of the program.
4. A maximum of 4 breaks for an hour program. Two breaks must be placed in the beginning
and the ending of the program with 2 natural breaks during the program.
