2005 was a very successful, if busy year, for
Suzuki Music. A large number of events and
professional developments sessions were
held throughout the year - nearly one every
weekend! There was something for every-
one from our smallest Violinist to our most
experienced teachers. Thank you to all the
teachers who volunteered their time for
these events in 2005. No matter how many
staff we have, there will always be the need
for a huge amount of voluntary work to
ensure we continue to provide events and
services for our many students, families and
teachers.
2005 saw Suzuki Music move from our home
for the past six years in Southbank, to East
Kew. Suzuki Music had truly grown out of the
small building in Southbank, and the extra
space has meant that we are able to run a
more organised association. The move has
been gladly received by the Suzuki
membership base. We have received many
more volunteers and visitors since the move,
due largely to the easily accessible location
and large free carpark at the rear of the
Suzuki Music Annual
Report
2005 5
For 2005, Suzuki Music Victoria has
generated a net surplus of $61,772, a
moderate but highly significant increase
from last year's surplus of $51,162.
Furthermore a great result considering that
we have forecasted a loss of $21,458.
Again the Suzuki management team,
council members, and music teachers have
delivered "big time" in 2005. Let's not forget
that without the support of our Suzuki
families we would not have this great
financial result.
The year 2006 will be another challenge for
everyone as we are forecasting a loss of
around $31,431. We are hoping that we
can turn things around and make a profit
instead. I have the highest confidence in
the Suzuki management team, council
members and music teachers that they will
be able to pull through.
This will be my last report as Treasurer of
Suzuki Music Victoria as I have resigned
from the council. My two daughters who
have been learning Suzuki violin since they
were 5 and 6 years old have opted not to
continue anymore with formal music
lessons. This year they will be both at
University and will still continue playing
wonderful music in the orchestra at Monash
University and elsewhere. We enjoyed very
much the music and fun times we had with
their activities with Suzuki Music. We will
cherish these all our lives. We greatly
appreciate our daughters' Suzuki music
teachers in different states that we lived in.
They truly reinforced our love of music.
Thank you for the opportunity that you have
given me to share my knowledge and skills
with Suzuki Music Victoria during the past
couple of years. All the best to everyone!!!

The 2005 Autumn Festival had the largest
student and teacher enrolments of any
Melbourne workshop to date. Over 560
students and 110 teachers enjoyed the
beautiful grounds of Scotch College for five
days of music making and activities with
leading international tutors such as Hiroko
Suzuki (Violin), Frank Londay (Guitar),
Annette Costanzi (Cello), Fay Adams
(Piano), Paivi Kukkamaki (Voice) and
Marja-leena Makila (Flute). Wonderful
feedback was received from all who
attended. The event seems now to have a
strong reputation amongst the other states
and New Zealand, and numerous families
travelled from as far away as Singapore to
enjoy the Festival.
The Suzuki Association returned a very
healthy profit for the 2005 year, but care
must now be taken by us all not to become
complacent. The 2006 calendar with a very
short term one, other long terms and a
festival in Winter will prove very difficult. As a
