Suzuki Music Annual
Report
2005 4
It is with pleasure and pride that I write the
2005 Annual report.
As usual the largest event on the calendar
was the Autumn Festival and as we have
come to expect it was bigger better and
brighter than ever. This event does not just
materialise. It is the brainchild of a
dedicated committee comprising of
Kathryn Bond, Libby Brooks, Rosemary
Dunks, Georgina Ellul, Julia Kaplan and
Karen Vincent. They already have busy
work schedules and this is another load for
them to carry. I sincerely thank them all
especially as they all kept smiling. The tutors
were excellent of course and Mrs. Suzuki
inspired us all. A very big thank you to all
the local teachers. There would be no
festival without you. The daily concerts were
very well attended and of a good
standard. Both the opening concert and
the Showcase Concert were fantastic. It
makes all the hard work worthwhile doesn't
it?
The Mini Festival took the place of
Stringalong, Pluckerama and various other
workshops and was a great success as well
as a lot of fun.
The office moved to its new position in Kew
and I am sure you would all agree that has
been a very good move indeed. The office
staff are like good wine, they just get better
and better. Rosemary Dunks as Activities
Manager has taken a large load off the
teachers as she does the bulk of the
organising for events now. Karen Woods
runs the administration side of things
efficiently and with no fuss. Kathryn Bond is
now totally in control of all the many tasks
that befall her. This remains an "over
stretched" work place but it continues to
get more and more efficient.
The all instrument Concerts were well
attended and the ones I went to were well
worth listening to. Some were very crowded
this year and some changes will be made in
2006. Thank you to all the teachers who
gave up their valuable Sundays to assist in
these events.
I was not able to attend the Grand Annual
Concert but know it went very smoothly
with Nehama Patkin's expert compering
and Rob Turton filling in for me. I was sorry to
miss this event, as it is always a wonderful
chance to hear a lot of instruments all on
the stage at one time. I hope you all
enjoyed the afternoon. There were a
considerable number of piano graduations
with very enjoyable celebration concerts to
follow. Congratulations to all the students
who graduated in 2005 and thank you to
parents and teachers for all the hard work
done.
It was with regret that we cancelled the
Night of Stars but the box office numbers
were not looking good. We will bring it back
after a year or so off to rekindle everyone's
enthusiasm.
The instrument committees continued their
invaluable work. They will be presenting
their own reports so I would just like to say
yet again how much they are appreciated.
The Council is working well with helpful input
from all involved. Norman Valenzuela our
treasurer is leaving the Council this year as is
Jane McNab, Sheryl Hickey and Anita
Sedgwick, our Parent representatives. I
would like to thank them for the work done
over the past year. The P.D committee
headed by Julia Breen needs a special
vote of thanks. This committee has to be
continually inventive and it works hard to
do this. Katrina Pezzimenti and Margaret
Bland are to be congratulated on
becoming Teacher Trainers. They are both
very special teachers and we hope they
have long and eventful teaching
experiences in the Suzuki family.
Thank you to everyone for the work done
this year and in anticipation for the work
you will do in 2006
