2006 was, as always for Suzuki Music, an
eventful year. As mentioned by Carolyn
Jarrett,
the
placement
of
the
Commonwealth Games in March and the
subsequent changes to the school term
dates meant that the year was very
unpredictable. Luckily, our members
seemed to cope with a Festival in June,
Graduations in Term Three and Mini Festival
in Term Four, but will enjoy the return to a
more `normal' calendar in 2007.
To our great sadness, long time staff
member, Karen Woods, resigned from
Suzuki Music in May 2006 to pursue other
business interests with her husband. I would
like to take this opportunity to thank Karen
for all her years of hard work and unfailing
support for Suzuki Music, and wish her luck
in her new business ventures. Karen was
replaced by Suzuki parent, Tam Tran. Tam
started with us just before the Winter
Festival, and was really thrown in the deep
end. Hopefully 2007 will be an easier year
for her.
In the absence of a Treasurer, it is my
pleasure to present the Financial Report for
2006. In 2006, Suzuki Music generated a net
surplus of $67,805, a moderate but highly
significant increase from last year's surplus
of $61,772. This was an unexpectedly

of all these graduations are high. The Suzuki
Orchestra continues to flourish. It is so
beneficial to be playing in ensembles and
orchestras at such an early age.
A very special thanks to Allans Music for the
wonderful and on going support they give
to Suzuki Music. We would not be able to
do many of our events without their
financial support.
As always to all the committees a huge
thank you. To those committee members
retiring thank you for all the work you have
done and to all new committee members,
welcome. I am sure you will find the work
pleasant. The committees will all give their
own reports of course. I would like to give a
special thanks to the Suzuki Music Council.
They are a very cohesive group which
makes our meetings productive. We have
two new parent representatives, Caroline
Bills and Elizabeth Sammy and a new
treasurer, Christine Bliss. I hope they enjoy
their time on Council. I would also like to
thank Julia Breen for her continual and
tireless work as head of the PD Committee.
All of you deserve the highest praise and
once again I thank you all.
The office as you are all aware, is very
efficiently run by Kathryn. We must have
one of the most pleasant Suzuki offices in
the country. Rosemary as Activities
Administrator has taken much of the work
load off the teachers and we thank her for
that. Tam has been with us now for some
time and is settling in as Administration
Co-ordinator. Thank you to you all.

pleasing result, due largely to the success of
Winter Festival and a raffle held by the
Piano Committee. I would particularly like to
thank all the instrument committees who
worked very hard to ensure that their
targeted surpluses were met, and in a lot of
cases, exceeded. There is always a delicate
balance in a not-for-profit Association, such
as Suzuki Music, between offering quality
events for teachers and students and
ensuring that the Association can remain in
a strong position financially. I feel that this
balance was met in 2006.
I look forward to working with our new
Honorary Treasurer, Christine Bliss, in 2007,
and learning as much from her as she can
offer. Hopefully with her guidance, and the
support of all committees and members,
we will be able to turn around a concerning
looking budget.
My greatest thanks go to Rosemary, Tam,
Carolyn, Rob, Carlene and the rest of the
Association for their help and support.
Suzuki Music is not an easy place to work. It
is always busy, often very stressful and
sometimes overwhelming, but as we strive
together to continue Dr Suzuki's visions, it all
seems worth it.
