Look up your search topic (and its synonyms) in the Vocabulary
Usage section.
Note the fields to search and whether controlled terminology exists.
Check the Scope Notes of any suggested controlled term in the Authority File or
Concept Code sections.
If an appropriate controlled term is located, use this in the search. Also
consider any narrower terms to focus the search or broaden terms to expand
the scope of the search.
If a controlled term is not found, use free text (including synonyms and
variants etc.).
Review the search results and modify the search if necessary.
