Step 2: Select a Term from the List of Permuted Terms or Permuted Index
You can choose a more appropriate term from the List of Permuted Terms or Permuted
Index.
PC SPIRS
1. Press
[F9] to display the
Thesaurus prompt.
2. Type a word, part of a word or
phrase and press
[Enter]. The portion
of the List of Permuted Terms con-
taining your term (or the term alpha-
betically closest to the term) appears.
See Figure 1, page 19.
WinSPIRS
1. Click on
Thesaurus>> on the Main
screen to display the Thesaurus screen.
2. Type a word, part of a word or
phrase and click on
LookUp. The
portion of the Permuted Index
beginning with the term you entered
will be displayed.
Individual researchers will develop different ways to use the Thesaurus, but the basic
concepts are generally similar to the following:
1.
Type a term at the Thesaurus prompt.
2.
Select a term from the List of Permuted Terms or Permuted Index.
3.
View the Selected Term Details or Term Information.
4.
Choose a type of search.
5.
Begin a search.
These five steps are described in detail below.
Step 1: Type a Term at the Thesaurus Prompt
The first step in a Thesaurus search is to type a term of interest.
PC SPIRS
1. Use the
[PgUp] and [PgDn]
keys to scroll through the List of
Permuted Terms.
2. Position the cursor on a term us-
ing the
[ ] and [ ] keys.
WinSPIRS
1. Use the scroll bar to scroll through
the Permuted Index.
2. Click on the term you want.
