When searching a particular subject, include all the fields where the term may be found,
such as the Title (TI) and Descriptors (DE) fields. However, if your search focuses on a
specific type of information, such as an author name or a particular journal, limit your
search terms to the particular field containing that information by using the two-letter
abbreviation of the appropriate field. For example,
jones-l-p in au will retrieve references
by L. P. Jones. Refer to "Individual Field Descriptions" beginning on page 9 for examples
in each field.
Index Searching
Searching for terms in the Index allows you to browse the alphabetical index of all the
terms and phrases in the free-text (non-limit) fields in the database. By browsing the
Index, you can search for alternate word endings, spelling variants or synonyms. When
searching directly from the Index, the highlighted terms will automatically be com-
bined using the
or operator.
