About BIOSIS
BIOSIS, established in 1926, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to foster
the growth, communication and use of biological knowledge for the common good.
By accumulating the world's largest collection of bibliographic references and abstracts
to worldwide biological and medical literature and organizing this information for
easy access, BIOSIS provides vital sources of information for life scientists.
BIOSIS processes approximately 540,000 bibliographic items each year, from primary
research and review journals, books, monographs, and conference proceedings.
BIOSIS data, a pool of material totalling over 10.5 million citations at the end of 1995,
is available in several formats. These include Biological Abstracts (B A), the leading
printed reference publication for worldwide life science journals, and Biological
A b s t r a c t s / R RM (Reports, Reviews, Meetings) (B A / R R M), the reference supplying
unique coverage of research information published in sources other than peer-review
journals. BIOSIS also publishes Zoological Record, supplying a comprehensive
collection of references to zoological literature worldwide. These print products are
also available in CD-ROM formats, along with Foods Intelligence on Compact Disc,
BIOSIS GenRef
TM
on Compact Disc and TOXLINE Plus. In addition to print
and compact disc formats, BIOSIS' extensive database of citations can be accessed
via online services. Online products consist of BIOSIS Previews, B i o B u s i n e s s,
Zoological Record Online, and TO X L I N E. BIOSIS Previews and B i o B u s i n e s s
also are available as subscription-based products.
