separately searchable components called data elements (or fields or paragraphs). Data
elements make the record format systematic and uniform and are your access points
to the records.
The data elements can be grouped into four broad categories:

Subject Information: Title, Abstract, Added Keywords, Concept Codes, Biosystematic
Codes and Super Taxonomic Groups

This field contains the unique eight-digit identification number assigned by BIOSIS.
From 1994 forward, all records for each year will have the same volume number, begin-
ning with 97. Information on the print reference is provided in the Journal Announce-
ment field.
Prior to 1994, the first two digits represent the volume number of B A o r
B A / R R M in which the reference was published and the last six digits represent
the citation number.
This field, available from 1994 forward, indicates where the reference was
published in B A or B A / R R M.
