Hiking the Grand Canyon - The Corridor Trails
uses a combination of computer generated
animation and trail footage to orient hikers to the Corridor trails of the Grand Canyon of the
Colorado River.
This video is of interest to the armchair explorer in all of us who, for one reason or another, may
never see the Grand Canyon below the rim.
The trails included are: The South Kaibab trail, the North Kaibab trail, and the Bright Angel trail.
The opening animation is a fly-over of the entire Grand Canyon region from Lake Powell to Lake
Mead. From there it zooms in on the North Rim and South Rim (a 200 square mile area that draws
most of the tourists). Finally it gives an overview of each trail alternating between actual trail
footage and animation.
This video presents the "Shape Map" for the hiker to use as a vertical orientation tool. The shape
map is a new concept that helps the hiker orient to the Grand Canyon and recognize where they are
on the trail. The shape map relates the geologic layers to 5 distinct sections: The upper cliffs, the
Supai-Hermit Interval, The Redwall, The Tonto Platform, and the inner gorge.

Ken hiked the Grand Canyon for the first time in October of 1993 - from that point on Ken's
passion has been finishing this video. Early attempts were sure cures for insomnia and Ken's
friends and family endured several iterations. Over time, with Jeannine's support, the rough spots
and long pauses gradually coalesced into a finished video.
