Teachers' views on their responsibilities are more dependent on the specific area
of the student's life (Exhibit 7.4). Teachers are most likely to feel most responsible for
a student's learning about different jobs and careers (72%), followed by a student's
safety (39%) and a student's getting a good education (31%). Few teachers feel that
they are most responsible for a student's health (2%) or happiness (2%). The size of
the teacher's school is related to some of teachers' views on responsibility. Teachers
from smaller schools (less than 500 students) are more likely than those from larger
schools (2000 or more students) to think that they are most responsible for a student's
getting a good education (36% vs. 23%) and a student's learning about different jobs
and careers (77% vs. 59%).
