Which Students Have the Most Support?
What aspects of students' lives are associated with a wider base of support? When it
comes to advice about classes, non-minority students are more likely than minority
students to report that they could turn to three or four groups of people (among fam-
ily, friends, educators and others) (52% vs. 42%). In addition, students with a high
quality of life (who have friends, get along well with parents, are happy at school, feel
safe, and are not bored, sad or get into a lot of trouble) are more likely than those with
a low quality of life to report that they could turn to more people (63% vs. 39%).
However, family income is not associated with the range of support that students have
in this situation (Exhibit 4.5).
