The Teacher's Role
Nearly all teachers believe that they or other school personnel are people that their
students would go to if they needed advice about what classes to take at school (94%)
or for help if they felt threatened by another student at school (92%). Teachers are
less likely to see themselves as sources of support if students were feeling sad or
depressed (80%), yet they are still viewed as the primary source of support, compared
to family and friends (Exhibit 11.5).
