cases revealed that the morbidities of flatland patients accorded with two, three or four items of
the diagnostic criteria of SIRS were 59.1%, 27.2% and 12.1% respectively and accorded with
MODS scoring criteria were 50.0%(two organs) and 56.1% (three organs). Compared with that in
moderate high altitude areas, the morbidities accorded with two, three or four items of the
diagnostic criteria of SIRS were 86.5%, 82.0% and 54.1% respectively and accorded with MODS
scoring criteria were 70.3%(two organs) and 48.6% (three organs). Conclusion: 1. Although
populations at moderate high altitude areas had good adaptive capacity, any relatively severe
stimulus might be potential dangrous factor to induce hypoxia and acute fluctuation of oxygen
dissociation curve and initiate the more violent stress/inflammatory reaction compared with that
on plain, the quantified criteria of which had become very clear in area of 1500m above sea level.
2. It was affirmed that altitude SIRS might had the common pathogenic basis as AHAS through
investigating further various criteria and clinical quantified index.

The purpose of this study is to probe the lesion of the coronary artery and understand the risk
factors for coronary heart disease in native and immigrant patients above 40 years in high
altitude. METHODS According to coronary arteriongraphy results, 120 patients above 40 years
old who had undergone coronary angiography were divided into the coronary heart
disease_CHD_ group (74examples) and the non-coronary heart disease group (46 examples) to
study their lesion characters and risk factors. RESULTS Family history of CHD, total blood
cholesterol_ low density lipoprotein_LDL__ and triglyceride(TG) level were the main risk
factors_P<0.05_. In the CHD group, left anterior descending branch is implicated in 79.69% of
Han cases and in 80% of Tibetan cases. The occurrence rate of dual-branch lesion and full block
cases is higher. CONCLUSIONS The lesion of the coronary artery in the native and immigrant
populations above 40 years old in high altitude is serious, especially in males. The lesion extent
has no statistical difference between the native Tibetans and immigrant Han.

The study aimed to investigate the correlation between the impairment in memory of patients
with chronic hypoxia encephalopathy and the degree of hypoxia at high altitude. 60 patients with
chronic hypoxia encephalopathy and 96 controls underwent memory tests. The clinical memory
scale assessment (from the Psychology Research Institute of the Chinese Science Institute) was
evaluated. Meanwhile, oxygen arterial pressure (PaO2) and oxygen saturation (SaO2) were also
measured. There was a significant decrease of memory in patients with chronic hypoxia
encephalopathy, especially the short-term memory. The scale measured paired-association
learning, directed memory, free recall pictures and recall of the connection between portraits.
These characteristics scored lower than that of recognition of meaningless figures and the
reaction time was delayed. When PaO2 was < 7.3kpa (55mmHg) and SaO2 < 80%, the
impairment in memory immediately occurred and worsened with decreasing PaO2 and SaO2.
These findings indicate that high-altitude hypoxia might adversely affect memory in chronic
hypoxia encephalopathy.
