To investigate the changes in concentration of IL-1ß and IL-6 in the serum of healthy
individuals who live in different altitudes, and to find the relation between CK net and the
adaptation to high altitude and mountain sickness. Method: Using ELISA to detect the
concentration of serum IL-1and IL-6. Results: IL-1ß level was significantly increased at the
altitude of 4050m (p<0.05). IL-6 in same altitude also had obvious changes (p<0.05).In addition,
at 4050m, IL-6 level of over forty years age was higher than that of control group (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The results showed that the concentration of IL-1ß and IL-6 has significant changes
in the serum. It may imply that they are involved in the process of hypoxia adaptation and
mountain sickness.

Rhodiola kirillowii, a common herb used in Tibetan medicine, has the function of relieving
fever, promoting the function of lung, improving circulation and reducing bleeding time.
Research has shown that it has anti-hypoxic properties. Under hypoxic conditions, the hypoxia
affects mainly the heart and brain. Lactic acid is a metabolic byproduct of anaerobic metabolism.
High altitude hypoxia can obstruct metabolism, strengthen anaerobic metabolism and produce
lactic acidosis. This experiment observes whether Rhodiola kirillowii improves hypoxia by
measurement of the lactic acid content in the myocardium and brain of mice. Method: Rhodiola
kirillowii alcohol extracts were given orally to test mice for ten days. The experiment attempted
to simulate a 5000m plateau environment to determine the lactic acid content in the myocardium
and brain of test mice ten days after starting the medicine protocol. Result: The effect of Rhodiola
kirillowii on the lactic acid content of heart and brain tissue in hypoxic test mice

Conclusion: Rhodiola kirillowii alcohol extracts can improve the course of myocardial
metabolism, promote adaptation of the body to a hypoxic environment and reduce the content of
lactic acid in brain.

To evaluate the imaging characteristics and diagnostic value of Magnetic Resonance Imaging
(MRI) in High-Altitude Heart Disease (HAHD) in children.High-Altitude Heart Disease, a form
of mountain sickness, is very common in both Tibet Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province
of China. Eight patients with clinically diagnosed HAHD who lived between 3500-4500m, aged 8
months to 2 years were observed with a 0.5T magnetic resonance system using surface coil and
SE sequence technology. The right ventricular anterior wall in the systolic and diastolic periods
(RVAWs, RVAWd), left ventricular posterior wall in the systolic and diastolic periods (LVPWs,
LVPWd), interventricular septum (IVS), and pulmonary artery (PA) were measured. Four healthy
