to a similar extent. By Western immunoblot LTH arteries, had 1.7-fold higher expression of both
total and phosphorylated CPI-17. Also, peak NE-induced MLC20 phosphorylation in normoxic
vessels occurred at ~ 20 sec, while in LTH vessels this was at 10 sec and by 15 sec
phosphorylated MLC20 had returned to basal level. Our data suggests that LTH-induced an
increase in Ca2+ sensitivity is regulated, in part, through the modulation of MLC20
phosphorylation via CPI-17. Also, although Rho kinase plays an important role in regulation of
NE-induced contraction and [Ca2+]i, it did not appear to play a major role in LTH-induced

Tibetan medicine is a science in a situation of special plateau which is created by Tibetan
people through fighting against diseases. What the important idea of it is the union of both
external and internal environment. Tibetan medicine believes that the Sa(dust), Chu(water),
me(fire), Rlung(wind) and Namkha(empty) are basic elements which constitutes all creatures and
the universe. The five elements play an important role in the existence and development of all the
creature and the universe. They make a close contact between the human and nature ecology. The
behavior of creatures can make the five elements of external environment lose balance, which can
cause the maladjustment of the creature, then cause a disease. When treating a disease we should
consider the season, behavior living, food and drugs, which are determined by the five elements.
So the process of therapy is that we adjust the internal environment. As a result, if people desire
to be healthy we must protect the natural ecology.

Objective: To study the effect of oxygen enrichment of room air on blood oxygen saturation
(SaO2) at an altitude of 3700m. Methods: Raising the oxygen concentration to (24.30±0.88)% in
a room of 4.51m_3.32m_3.41m, twelve men aged 18 to 20 years who had stayed at high altitude
(3700m above sea level) for 30 days slept one night in ambient air and another night in oxygen
enrichment, the order being randomized, their SaO2 were measured in the evening before the
subjects retired to bed and in the next morning and the first, second, third, fourth hour after they
left the dormitory. Results: Mean SaO2 for the first hour in the oxygen enrichment room was
significantly greater than during ambient air in the same room [(94±2.17) % vs. (90.17±3.38) %,
p<0.01], the morning measurement exceeded the evening measurement by an average of 2.33%
after the subjects had slept in oxygen enrichment (p<0.01) and the increase in SaO2 between
evening and morning could persist about 3 hours. Conclusions: Installing an oxygen-enriched
room at high altitude is relatively simple and inexpensive and shows promise for improve sleep
quality, well-being, and work capacity.
