The objective of this paper is to report that there was a correlation among urine, blood
osmotic pressure, urine and blood osmotic ratio and indicators of the blood rheology at different
altitudes. The urine and blood osmotic pressure and urine and blood osmotic ratio were tested by
OSMOMAT--- 037, which was made in Switzerland. The indicators of the blood rheology were
tested by LBY---N6, which was made in China. There was a significant difference the above-
mentioned parameters among the groups living at 4750m, 2800m and the control group
(P<0.001--0.05). There was a correlation among urine and blood osmotic pressure, urine and
blood osmotic ratio and 4 indicators of the blood rheology. The regression equation showed that
there was a significant difference between the multiple correlation and F tests (p<0.05). It was
concluded that chronic hypoxia could damage change the level of urine and blood osmotic
pressure as well as urine and blood osmotic ratio in plateau dwellers. In addition, 3 indicators of
urine and blood osmotic pressure correlated with 4 indicators of the blood rheology, and osmotic
pressure was a factor that affected the characteristics of the blood rheology.

To observe the effects of inhaled nitric oxide (NO) on dynamics of oxygen metabolism in
piglets which were airlifted to high altitude quickly (the situation is very similar to patient
suffered from acute high mountain disease). Methods: Male Changbai piglets were airlifted from
Chengdu (elevation 400 meters) to Lhasa (elevation 3658 meters, PO2 97 mmHg). The right
cardiac catheter was used to measure the hemodynamics of blood-gas in those acute hypoxic
piglets supplemented with or without NO inhaling. The experiment was carried out in one week.
Result: After inhaling NO, the values of mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP), pulmonary
vascular resistance (PVR), intrapulmonary shunt (Qs/Qt) of acute hypoxic piglets are
significantly declined. Cardiac output (CO), oxygendelivery (DO2), oxygen consumption (VO2),
oxygen saturation (SaO2) were significantly improved. Oxygen entraction (O2Ext) has changed
little. Conclusion: Inhaled NO can significantly reduce the PVR of piglets airlifted to Tibet
plateau from an altitude close to sea level. It improves CO, which would then increase DO2,
VO2, and SaO2 of the tissues and lessen the obstruction of oxygen metabolism. It would benefit
the treatment of the patients acute high mountain disease.

It is known that in essential hypertension (EH) in concomitance with COPD significant right
and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction is observed, which influence the course and prognosis
og the diseases. But right ventricular diastolic function (RVDF) in highlanders with EH have not
been investigated. The aim of the study was to investigate left ventricular diastolic function in
highlanders (HL) with EH in high altitude hypoxic environment. Subjects - 10 HL with EH (mean
age 54±2,6 yrs), residing at altitudes of 2900-3600m. 26 age matched HL serve as control. They
were divided into 2 groups: 15 HL with PH (PAPmean25mm Hg) and 11 HL without PH
(PAPmean<25 mm Hg). All investigations were performed at altitude of 3000m. Pulmonary
hemodynamics and diastolic function were evaluated by 2-dimensional and Doppler
echocardiography.
