SURVEY RESULTS
The Sample
1,477 children completed the survey.
The gender split was: 63% girls, 37% boys.
The age group break down was: Year 8/9 = 14%, Year 7=16%, Y6=38%, Y5=25%, Y4=5%, Y3=2%.
Mobile Phone Ownership
At what age do children begin to own mobile phones? How does it differ for boys and girls?
Question 1: Do you have your own mobile phone?
Results
o 72% of the children say they have a mobile phone
o 28% say they do not have a mobile phone
Note that in June 2006, in a similar sample, 61% of the age group said they had mobile phones. That's
an increase of 11% in 5 months.
