Children in Protected Online Learning Communities
Introduction: Authentic Learner Voice

Intuitive Media's (IM) Protected Learning Communities for children and young people offer a unique
opportunity to reach an audience of over 100,000 age ­ authenticated children to engage their interest
and research their needs, tastes and opinions. IM conducts research into the membership base to
provide authentic Learner Voice evidence to inform policy ­ making, planning and development.
SuperClubsPLUS for 6--12 year olds
GoldStar Cafe for 11--14 year olds

Public and private organisations can commission research into this population of web-savvy digital-
natives. What do they do? What do they think? What do they need? What do they want? Recent
government-commissioned surveys have generated valuable intelligence on children's:

use of ICT at home and school
visits to social network sites
ownership & use of handheld devices
needs for personalised learning
understanding of global issues
hopes for education, career and family life
taste in films, games, music & books
pocket money spending habits

Industry Sector Research
IM also runs occasional Industry Sector Research initiatives, which are more generally available to
subscribers within a sector. This report is provided for public and private organisations within the ICT in
Education sector.
The Samples
Between them, the SuperClubsPLUS community (for children 6-12) and the GoldStar Cafe community
(for 11-14 year olds) cater for over 108,000 children and 12,000 teachers.

The children in these communities are rigorously authenticated. They are recruited through their
schools. Teachers are authenticated before they join the community, and then teachers supply
children's names, age and gender to Intuitive Media. We know with the highest degree of certainty that
these are real children of the stated age and gender. This gives the sample and the research data much
