For developing new processes combining synthetic chemistry and
biotechnology, we use the optimal conditions defined by process
developers as a starting point. We then
tailor the biocatalyst to that
process
.
This approach requires a
multidisciplinary team
to be successfully
addressed. An integrated platform has been built where chemists,
biochemists, microbiologists, molecular biologists and bioprocess
experts team up to
rapidly design robust and scalable routes
to the
target compounds, e.g. chiral APIs or intermediates.
Every characteristics of the molecules (stability, solubility, quality,
racemization conditions, downstream separation or purification
processes contemplated, cost, quality and availability of the raw
materials...) as well
as the constraints of the industrial process
(temperature, pH, salt concentration, solvents...) are integrated. High
throughput and high content screening assays are designed, calibrated
and implemented in Protéus state-of-the art HTS facilities to rapidly
identify and/or engineer the appropriate biocatalyst and
make it
available for manufacturing
