AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) was founded in 1983 to cater to
the sport of beach volleyball, its players and fans. In 2001 after a revamp, the
organization took over the beach volleyball tour in Manhattan Beach,
California. With this move, AVP became the focal point around which
professional volleyball revolves.
The AVP group represents professional beach volleyball in the face of the
media via tours that are broadcasted over television networks. The top players
on the recent 2005 AVP tours were the men - Jake Gibb, Stein Metzger, Dax
Holdren, Jeff Nygaard; and women - Kerri Walsh, Misty May-Treanor, Rachel
Wacholder, Elaine Young and many more.
