REGIONAL VICTORIA
THE REGION ENCAPSULATES SOME
of Victoria's most striking scenery, from
rugged sea cliffs to fertile hills and valleys,
making it a popular tourist destination
and weekend hideway. Now, it is
receiving considerable attention from the
MICE markets.
Just an hour from Melbourne, the
Mornington Peninsula's intriguing venues
and attractions are perfect for small to
medium sized meetings, events and incentive groups.
Five-star country properties such as Lindenderry at Red Hill are
typical of the region, combining the beauty of its Mornington
Peninsula surroundings with the luxury of a grand city hotel. It has
been likened to a French chateau with a touch of Australiana, and its
contemporary elegance is evident in every detail, from the Crabtree
& Evelyn bathroom toiletries, to the carefully collected furnishings
and art. Banquet rooms seat up to 200 guests, with vineyard and
garden views for dining, functions or conferencing. Gourmet dining
is also available in the hotel's acclaimed Linden Tree Restaurant.
Conferencing in a seaside castle is made possible at Peppers
Delgany. The hotel has two meeting rooms catering for up to 60
delegates, with 32 guest accommodation rooms. Set on five hectares
of private gardens with tennis court and swimming pool, guests can
also enjoy golf at the adjoining Portsea Golf Club. Nearby Portsea
Spa can organise on-site teambuilding activities, including corporate
health packages, stress management, health and fitness programs and
employee lifestyle balance. The Peppers Corporate Cooking School
makes for a fun and different incentive idea.
The Peninsula's most recent conference venue is Morning Star
Estate, a century old mansion set in 22 acres of exquisite gardens and
38 acres of vineyards, with panoramic views of Port Phillip Bay.
Morning Star Estate features a 20 room private hotel, a restaurant,
ballroom, chapel, theatre and two conference rooms. Guests can also
pamper themselves at the indoor spa, laze around the sunken garden,
or taste some of the Estate's premium wines.
Recognised as one of Australia's leading producers of premium,
maritime, cool climate wines, the Mornington Peninsula is particularly
well known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. So it's no surprise
that the region's 42 wineries with cellar doors are prime attractions
for tourists and MICE travellers. Recently, Mornington Peninsula
wines won seven trophies and 65 medals against stiff competition
from New Zealand, United States and Yarra Valley wines at the Red
Hill Show `Cool Climate Wine Show' 2002. Paringa Estate,Turramurra
Estate, Manton's Creek Vineyard, Dromana Estate, Stonier Wines
and Elgee Park Wines all received accolades.
Incentive groups and conference delegates can savour Mornington
Peninsula Wines straight from the source, enjoying winery tours
and tutored tastings, meeting the winemakers, or getting hands-
on with grape stomping. Many wineries and vineyards have
function facilities, with Hickinbotham of Dromana and Red Hill
Estate catering for up to 120 people, Elan Vineyard up to 150, and
Willow Creek for up to 200.
There are also some great winery restaurants on the Peninsula
where wine and food matching is an art.Try the recently opened
restaurant at Montalto Vineyard and Olive Grove, or Jill's for fine
dining and stunning accommodation at Moorooduc Estate, or
alfresco dining at Paringa Estate, Manton's Creek or Dromana Estate.
Tuck's Ridge temptations
From a small four acre vineyard at Red Hill, established in 1986,
Tuck's Ridge has grown to now make close to 15,000 cases or wine
per year and be sold Australia
wide and overseas, and regularly
entertains corporate groups.
The Mornington Peninsular
property offers numerous possi-
bilities for conference groups
- from pre-dinner drinks and
wine to accompany dinner,
Mornington Peninsula wines and dines the MICE Set
