when holding meetings with capital city properties where
there may be more than one company conferencing at the
same time.
Similarly, the exclusivity of conferencing in Regional

As Chris Ciastkowski of the Regional Victoria Conference
Group said at the launch of the Victoria Meetings & Events
Service recently, Regional Victoria has so much to offer the
meetings industry locally, nationally, and now increasingly
internationally.
"The tragic events of September 11 and the collapse of
Ansett have been challenging for regional Victorian operators,"
he said.
"There has been a decline in the market. Competition from
new regional resort-type operators, and the concentration of
CBD properties on targeting the small meetings market is
having a dramatic effect on the viability of many of the smaller
players. Many events have been postponed or cancelled, and
many of the planned residential programs have and are being
conducted in house."
He believes that the new initiative will not only help raise
the profile of the wonderful Regional Victoria product
available but considerably increase business.
