REGIONAL VICTORIA
Rupertswood:
birthplace of The Ashes
Few people may know that The Ashes that great icon of
Australian and English cricket originated in regional Victoria.
In Sunbury in fact, on a property called Rupertswood, where the
English cricket team stayed during the summer of 1882.
The players were guests of the owner of the property, Sir
William Clarke, the first Australian born Baronet, where they
were presented with an ivory urn purported to contain the
ashes of a burnt bail by Lady Clarke.
First the home to the Clarke family, and later a boarding
school, Rupertswood is today a restored function centre and
guesthouse.
Just 10 minutes from Melbourne Airport and 30 minutes
from the Melbourne CBD, its elegantly restored Victorian
rooms offer a wonderful setting for business meetings and
special events.
Classified by the National Trust of Victoria and National
Estate Heritage Victoria, it now also offers exclusive
accommodation in stately Victorian rooms, and will soon open
a grand ballroom which will be able to cater for dinners and
meeting for more than 100 people.

Return of High Ropes
at Lancemore Hill
Conference activities go in and out
of vogue. Since its opening 16
years ago Lancemore Hill has seen
many and varied activities what
was popular five or 10 years ago
is now passè. Facilitators look for
new ways to get their message
across and at the same time create
activities which are fun as well as
learning opportunities.
This year has seen the return
in popularity of the high ropes
course, with series bookings for outdoor activities being once
again a focus for a number of organisations.
Corporate Outdoor Training are regular partners with
Lancemore Hill and go "out bush" to the property's high and low
ropes course. They are currently mid-series with a large inter-
national manufacturing company, introducing and integrating new
values across the organisation, developing supporting behaviours
for the corporate cultural change in the internal and external
environment through physical and problem solving activities.
The delegates spend their days participating in physical
exercises on the high ropes course, problem solving and team
challenges. All are designed to promote teamwork and
innovative thinking to improve the team's effectiveness in the
workplace. Lunch is served bush style where appetites are
stimulated by the fresh country air and challenged by the
unpredictable weather. Evenings provide time for reflection -
pleasantly tired from the physical activities, the delegates unwind
in Lancemore Hill's relaxing environment, enjoying a delicious
dinner before sleeping well and waking to another day of
challenges.
The group leaves Lancemore Hill after three days of intensive
activity; refreshed by the environment and tranquillity, stimulated
by the challenges and ready to confidently embrace and implement
their new values.
