During MIAA's National Conference
on Hamilton Island, some 400
industry delegates were on hand to
witness the presentation of MIAA's
2001 Meetings & Events Industry
National Awards.

presented after a rigorous State and Territory
evaluation of nominations for 18 categories across
a wide spectrum of industry activity.There were
various outstanding winners this year including
many relating to Olympic Games activities.
Sydney conference managers Tour Hosts
took the Event of the Year Award for its BHP
Olympic Hospitality Program and The Olympic
organisers, SOCOG, won the association's Special
Contribution Award.
The Outstanding Operations Person Award
went to Kerri Chittenden of David Grant Special
Events (DGSE). The company was also heavily
involved with the Olympic Games, producing
some 320 events in 21 days, including hospitality
services to the IOC. DGSE also took out the
Special Event Organiser Award.
Richard Dinnage from the Carlton Crest
Hotel Melbourne, who won the award for
Meeting Venue for events with more than 500
delegates, attained the Outstanding Sales and
Marketing Person award.
Adelaide-based Hartley Management Group,
represented by managing director Graham
Teague, took out the award for Meetings Manage-
ment for companies with eight or less employees.
Last year the company managed 12 national
and international conferences, with delegate
numbers ranging from 60 to 780.

EVENTS INDUSTRY AWARDS.
The award winners highlight the total dedi-
cation of our industry to the utmost delivery of
top quality meetings and events, which allows
Australia to maintain its position as one of the
world leaders.
