Already a favourite with event organisers, the aptly named Grand
Ballroom has been transformed with stylish new furnishings, state-
of-the-art audiovisual equipment and the latest in banqueting
facilities. One of the few fully pillar-less ballrooms in Australia
with capacity for up to 1100 people, the Grand Ballroom boasts
sound-proofed movable walls to divide the room to suit any
configuration.
"One of the best things about the Grand Ballroom is the sense
of arrival guests have, thanks to the heritage chandeliers and the
dramatic lobby, which sets the tone for any event," says Director of
Sales and Marketing Helen Crouch.
With the largest pre-event space in Sydney, the area supports flow
and movement of guests and builds an anticipation of excellence
through the quality and style of décor.
Having hosted some of the most important visitors to Sydney over
the years, including George Bush Snr, Prince Charles, Princess
Diana, Queen Elizabeth II and Audrey Hepburn, the newly
renovated Grand Ballroom is ready to continue its role as the city's
pre-eminent conference and event space for the highest quality
functions.
With the entire third floor focused on meetings and conventions,
all rooms have been upgraded and new space added to the foyer
by moving the Convention and Catering office. The end result is
a fully flexible event space that delivers the highest standards in
setting, food and beverage and ambience.
"As Accor's flagship Sofitel in Australia, the Wentworth will set new
standards in service and appointments," says General Manager Clive
Scott. "We are very excited with the renovations and are confident
our clients are going to be completely satisfied with the results".
"Accor has been keen to fulfil its expansion goal of getting a Sofitel
in Sydney and with our own expectations of success you can be
assured that everything will be done to ensure the highest standards
are imposed throughout."
Extensive renovations to all guest rooms and suites are also nearing
completion. The opulent furnishings and elegant European décor
that do not sacrifice guest comfort, have already received rave
reviews from guests.
Located just a short stroll from Circular Quay, the Royal Botanic
Gardens, Sydney's best shopping and entertainment, the new Sofitel
Wentworth Sydney is also perfect for incentives. As the official
hotel of the Lion King, it offers great packages including tickets to
the most exciting show in Sydney this decade - the perfect reward
for staff!
Sofitel Wentworth Sydney, just like its southern counterpart, the
Sofitel Melbourne, will be Sydney's hotel for the arts.
"Our involvement with the arts is very extensive and integral to
the hotel's landmark personality," said Clive Scott. "The Wentworth
has been Sydney's hotel for well over a century, so we believe it is
important that the hotel be a venue for major art events that reflect
Sydney's - and Australia's - cultural development.
"I feel the arts positioning gives a very strong reflection of what our
guests can expect from the Sofitel Wentworth Sydney in terms of
sophistication, culture, refinement and French savoire faire."
For event organisers this also brings a unique point of difference
for any occasion.
The rebranding of the hotel in September will be arguably the
biggest hotel relaunch Sydney has ever seen, with a spectacular
never-before-in-Australia event that will announce the Sofitel
Wentworth Sydney is back in true style. Keep watching for more
details soon.

Sydney's `newest' function space is about to be relaunched onto the events scene, with the landmark Wentworth Hotel about to reach
the completion of its $60 million refurbishment. The hotel, to be rebranded to Sofitel Wentworth Sydney in September, will become
the luxury five-star brand's flagship in Australia and promises to bring the return of true elegance to Sydney's MICE market.
