that compared to other treatment modalities, the Ahmed valve has a relatively good success
rate. However, we should stress that only the early and intermediate follow-up periods were
evaluated in our study. Although most of the postoperative complications appeared in the
early post operative period, the occurrence of sight threatening complications in the
intermediate follow-up period make close ongoing follow-up essential. The challenge of
decreasing complication rates and increasing long-term success remains.
