*Late AMD defined as choroidal neovascularization, geographic atrophy, or as a cause of blindness as
determined by photographs in SEE, and by clinical exam in PVER.
Individual studies adjusted for age, sex, smoking, race (SEE and BES only). Combined analyses
adjusted for age, sex, smoking, race (Caucasian, non-Caucasian), and study.
Severe Cataract: nuclear=4, cortical>=8/16, or any PSC opacity as determined from photographs for
SEE and PVER, and by visual impairment or blindness attributed to cataract as determined by clinical
exam in BES.
