The station doing the interview loses its upcoming spot in the pool rotation.
Station person making the contact will be an experienced journalist, selected by news
management.
Contact person will represent him/herself as spokesperson for all involved stations,
explaining the purpose of the pool and the sharing of materials among stations.
Contact person will request information, materials and interviews, but will not exert
undo pressure.
Contact station will enjoy no competitive advantage. A release time for materials will
be agreed upon by the pool members. Interviews will be shot in a manner that
minimizes involvement of the interviewer. (No two-shots, stand-ups or cutaways of
the reporter.) Microphone flags will not be used.
All video shot during the pool visit, including interiors/exteriors of the house or
workplace, family photos, and interviews with family and friends in the house at the
time are property of the pool. The pool reporter also agrees to provide a written
summary of any other information obtained during the visit or phone conversations
outside of the video-taped interview.
Pool arrangement applies to immediate family (spouse, parents, children, siblings.)
Stations may develop contacts with friends, employers, more distant relatives,
educators and others at their own discretion.
Pool arrangement dissolves after local religious or burial services for the deceased.
Pool stations will work with families to coordinate pool coverage of services, should
families desire.
All stations agree that station policies prohibiting the release of "out-take" video will
be honored by the pool members. Story dubs may be released at the discretion of the
stations.
Pool video material will be shared with networks and other news affiliates but will not
be made available to "infotainment" type programs without notification of families.
Any member of the pool may withdraw from this agreement at any time by notifying
all pool members.
