LAX Gateway Enhancement Project -- What People Are Saying
"I love the light show ... In fact, my husband and I are searching for just the right vantage
point to pull over and safely watch these beautiful light sabers color the night sky."
"For all of you who haven't seen them, grab the dog, put the kids in their jammies and take
a ride out to LAX one night to experience the light show for yourselves. You won't be
disappointed."
Joanne Sala, Marina Del Rey -- Los Angeles Times "Saturday Letters"
"... the LAX beautification project ... design captured the city's soul beautifully"
Jefferson
Davis, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Times "Saturday Letters"
"This project is symbolic of all that the City has to offer, while also raising its visibility to
travelers from around the world," said
Los Angeles Mayor Richard J. Riordan
. "These
improvements, and those yet to come, have made LAX a world-class landmark and given
each one of us a portal to the world that we can all be proud of."
Airport Commission President John J. Agoglia
said, "We are excited about the positive
impact that the enhancement project will have on the region served by LAX. The pylons and
large LAX sign will be a clear symbol of the airport and the City of Los Angeles being at the
forefront of the international travel, trade and tourism industries for years to come."
Merry Norris, art consultant and executive director of the Gateway to L.A. Property-Based
Business Improvement District (PBID)
said, "This project will favorably impact our district by
increasing business opportunities. This unique gateway will define the area for visitors and
residents alike by providing the city with a long-needed point of entry landmark. It will
enhance Los Angeles' reputation as an exciting, world-class city."
"It could be quite magical to have restaurants located in these high rise buildings and in
hotels,"
Norris
said. "Where people can go in the evening and view the spectacular lights
from these pylons."
"What I am excited about is the fact that we have more than 10,000 hotel rooms in the
district, excellent office space and now, finally, an environment to complement that," said
Erik Dahlerbruc, director of sales and marketing for the Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel
. "I
think it will draw people in and break down the negative image of what airports are. The
district will become a viable alternative to conduct business and host programs because of
these improvements."
