A
ll who climbed aboard the SS J.
T. Mather knew they were in
for One Enchanted Evening at
Mather's 40th fundraising gala. More
than $410,000 was raised to benefit
the Fortunato Breast Health Center
and breast cancer treatment at Mather
Hospital at the lively event held at the
Hyatt Wind Watch Hotel in
Hauppauge. This year's event recog-
nized the 2005 Theodore Roosevelt
Award recipients: Bretton Woods, a
residential community in Coram;
Internist Kenneth Fishberger, M.D.;
Rheumatologist Alan Kaell, M.D.; and
Gynecologist G. Michael Peters, M.D. In addition, the hospital honored Siemens,
an internationally recognized information technology company whose high-tech-
nology breast-imaging services help women of the local community who seek
treatment at the Fortunato Breast Health Center.
"Once again, it is a great pleasure to chair this event and see the support for
the Breast Center grow more and more each year," says One Enchanted Evening
Co-Chair Judith Fortunato.

Mather Hospital, represented by Chairman of the Board Hon. Vincent Bove (left),
and Suffolk County National Bank (SCNB), represented by President and CEO
Thomas S. Kohlmann, teamed up for an annual fundraising campaign, which this
year raised $14,870 to benefit the Fortunato Breast Health Center and the fight
against breast cancer. Through sales of a delicately designed pink flip-flop pin at
each of its 26 branches on Long Island, SCNB used the fundraising campaign to
remind women to have their annual mammograms. SCNB underwrote the entire
cost of the pins--designed by Long Island jewelry designer Lori Rae Silvers, who
survived breast cancer in 2002--and donated the entire amount of each pin sold
($15) to the Fortunato Breast Health Center.
SCNB and Breast Cancer Treatment
Camaraderie, sorority and survivorship were
the powerful messages conveyed at the 2005
Breast Cancer Victory Day at Mather Hospital.
More than 700 came out to share stories, offer
kind words of encouragement to one another
and hear inspirational anecdotes from three
speakers: eight-year breast cancer survivor and
Newsday garden columnist Irene Virag (pic-
tured), 20-year breast cancer survivor and psy-
chologist Maria Dias, Ph.D., and New York State
Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.

Cancer Victory Day to be held Sept. 16, 2006, call
