National Mirror Service led by John Smith
j.w.t.smith@ukc.ac.uk
John is now a member of the
Steering Group for this service and is happy to receive
comments and recommendations from JUGL members for
services which they would like to see mirrored in the UK.
Further information about the service can be found at
http://www.mirror.ac.uk/
If JUGL members have any comments which you would
like these co-ordinators to follow up, please contact them
directly. JUGL will circulate any new information on
lis-sitereps.
CO-OPERATION WITH EARL
JUGL is delighted to announce that several institutions
responded to our call for volunteers to act as backup
providers of information for the EARL Ask a Librarian
service -
http://www.earl.org.uk/ask/
From January 1st, for a trial period, Canterbury Christ
Church University College; Loughborough University;
Staffordshire University; University of Glasgow;
University of Luton; University of Strathclyde; and the
University of Wales, Aberystwyth, will all assist with
queries which public library staff are unable to answer
from their own resources. We are pleased to be involved in
this cross-sectoral venture. If any other library wishes to
join the scheme, Chris Webster at EARL
(
chris@earl.org.uk
) will be happy to provide further
information.
E-MAIL LISTS
JUGL is now using three e-mail lists for communication.
lis-sitereps is administered by BUBL and is used jointly by
JUGL and BUBL to communicate information to a
nominated representative in each academic institution
using the JANET network. This representative is then
expected to circulate the information within their
institution. JUGL also uses this list annually for committee
elections.
lis-jugl-info is a new list which the JUGL committee will
use to circulate committee information to relevant bodies
who are not regularly invited to attend committee
meetings.
lis-jugl-cttee is the communication vehicle for elected
committee members.
All the above are closed lists ensuring no `junk' mail. If
you have any queries about lis-sitereps, please contact
Andrew Williamson at BUBL

JUGL AGM 2000
As our two meetings fall on either side of the normal time
for holding our AGM, we have decided to repeat our 1998
experiment by holding a Virtual AGM. Details of this will
be circulated electronically in June, along with
arrangements for the 2000 elections. We hope that by
working in this way we are promoting use of the network
as a communication tool.
