applicants must demonstrate
understanding that the creation of a
`place' is more than object placing. the
positioning of individual buildings and
the treatment of the spaces in between
them are only part of the answer the
arrangement of activities within and how
they are sustained in the public realm
are critical components in the creation of
sustainable places. it is to be recognised
that not all architects can be urbanist. in
particular judges will look for excellent
masterplan design and evidence that
the location, orientation of the buildings,
the activities that they contain and the
design of the surrounding space formed
a critical component of the brief and
proposed/completed project. it is also
important to make evident how people
have primacy in the proposals. for the
purposes of this category, masterplan is
analogous to development plan, design
framework, development framework
etc. entrants should provide a written
statement, video or multimedia
presentation, diagrams, proposed/actual
plans and photographs to demonstrate
their intention to place make.
