next international meeting from the vantage
point of blissful retirement now when was
the ICHM last held in Sydney? 1987 I
believe....
Finally, for those who might contemplate
organizing a similar event for the ICHM, a few
things we found very helpful in the process
and can thoroughly recommend. First, use a
professional conference organizer. I can say
with my hand on my heart our meeting
would simply not have been so successful with
the expert advice and intervention of ICE
Australia. I say this with respect to both
practical and financial aspects. Second, lose
no opportunity to promote your meeting. We
widely distributed monthly newsletters over
the last 6 months and these gave us the
opportunity to build anticipation as well as
convey up to date information on activities
and events around town. Third, make every
effort to ensure social events are actually
enjoyable and not an extension of work.
Fourth, do it once, enthusiastically and
comprehensively. Then never offer again.
Finally, I must thank those who put so much
effort into making this happen. Jan Lehm,
Robyn Walker and Gabrielle Janik of the
organizing committee, Simon Mitchell and
David Doolette with the scientific programme,
Christy Pirone and Peter Barr from the HTNA,
Guy Dear, Lisa Wasdin and Don Chandler
from the UHMS and the "ICE maidens"
Kandis Taylor and Christine Dorner. It was
fun, guys.
