Among various contenders, only two countries, India and Israel, have created a substantive
presence till date. India, in particular, is witnessing rapid growth due to its cost advantages, the
early success achieved by the reference lighthouse customers and government initiatives
implemented to improve location attractiveness.
INDIA - AN INSIGHT
In India, easily the biggest provider of offshore development, IT exports had been growing at more
than 55% a year, for five years. Even in the recessionary market situation of the last 2 years, IT
exports grew around 30% and are expected to reach $50 billion by 2008, according to a report by
McKinsey & Co. In the export market, India's expertise in Professional Services and Customized
Software is expected to continue its dominance as a major part of Indian software export activity.
