Kalamazoo Holiday Parade
General Parade Information and Guidelines
Any updates to the rules and regulations for participation in the 2005 Kalamazoo Holiday Parade will be
included in the final information packet sent in October. Here is information that you might want to share with
your members. The Parade Committee reserves the right to adjust these rules as deemed necessary before final
packets are sent in October.
The Purpose:
The Kalamazoo Holiday Parade is hosted to carry on the tradition of hosting a holiday
kick off in downtown Kalamazoo. This is a grassroots, community celebration designed
to connect our nonprofit organizations, businesses, and associations with the general
public, providing holiday entertainment and enjoyment.
Parade Date:
Saturday, November 5 2005
Check-in:
The parade begins downtown at the Pfizer Parking Lot on Lovell Street and ends in the
same location. Parade units will be assigned a specific parade staging area. A
representative from the parade unit must check-in with the official by the time stated in
the final packet.
Parade Time:
Parade steps off at 10:45 a.m. Units that have not reported by 10:15 will not be allowed
entry into the parade (unless otherwise noted).
Parade Route:
The route includes Lovell Street to Park Street, Park Street to Michigan Avenue,
Michigan Avenue to Pitcher Street, and Pitcher Street back to Lovell Street. Cars cannot
park in the parade staging areas.
Television Coverage: WOTV-Channel 41 will provide live coverage of the event. Their staging area is located
on the corner of Henrietta and Lovell Street.
Reviewing Stand:
There is no reviewing stand. You are performing full-time for the thousands of
spectators, beginning to end.
Noise Restrictions:
Please do not use horns or sirens unless an emergency situation exists. Sound amplifier
range must be limited to your entry only.
Animal Units:
You are required to have someone cleaning up behind your animal (especially horses) at
all times. A fine will be assessed for clean-up.
Vehicles:
Only vehicles designated on your application will be allowed in the staging area. Band
Equipment vehicles will be allowed in the staging area, but not on the parade route.
Floats:
Trailers must be State Licensed approved and all safety and precaution measures must be
implemented. Approved railings and seating is required for anyone traveling on the float.
Floats cannot exceed 12 feet high from the ground..
Distribution:
For the safety of others, no items may be distributed from your parade unit, including
candy, souvenirs, balloons and/or literature, unless approved by the committee.
Disclaimer:
The Kalamazoo Holiday Parade Committee reserves the right to remove any entry from
the parade before and during the parade if the entry is not as stated in the parade
application, or is otherwise deemed unsuitable.
