a.   In previous years City Care has used Serco as one of 
our benchmark competitors. However, as Serco was 
absorbed by Transfield during the reporting period it is 
no longer an accessible benchmark. We have therefore 
chosen to replace Serco with Works Infrastructure in this 
year's report.
b.  Annual hours worked are the physical hours spent on  
the job. Total paid hours include holidays, sick and  
special pay. 
c.   We choose the person at the top of the lowest decile in 
order to filter out part-time staff or trainees whom we are 
supporting to complete substantial training programmes. 
d.  This is the base benefit figure, and does not include family 
assistance or accommodation supplements, which may 
also be available to our LAE.
e.  The company-funded superannuation payments are an 
ongoing entitlement that applies to former CCC workers 
who were members of this scheme when City Care was 
formed. The scheme is closed to new members.
NOTES TO PERFORMANCE 
STATEMENT
f.   City Care takes into account only the company's 
direct effect when calculating energy consumption 
and greenhouse gas emissions in order to avoid 
the possibility of "double counting" of environmental 
impacts. We therefore do not take into account supplier 
activity like air travel and subcontractors' vehicle usage, 
or the energy and greenhouse gas effects from the 
fabrication of plant and equipment we purchase.
g.  The conversion to households is based on an average 
residential energy use figure of 43.76 gigajoules per 
household. This data was obtained from the Ministry for 
the Environment. 
h.   Conversion of greenhouse gases to native forest 
consumption is based on the EBEX21 project of 
Landcare Research Ltd.
