Staff Recruitment and Retention
City Care is a growing company.
Numbers grew by 104 during the
year, and when one considers
84 staff left the company, the
recruitment of new staff totalled 188.
As a consequence, more than one
quarter of staff have less than one
year of service.
Staff turnover was 15.4%, a large
increase from prior years, where
turnover (excluding redundancy) has
never exceeded 10%. Of the leavers
16% were company initiated through
dismissal, redundancy, or frustration
of contract.
While City Care only had one
redundancy last year, a management
position in Christchurch, we have had
large fluctuations in redundancies
over the years, depending on loss
of contracts. In the preceding years
redundancies were 1 and 28.
Training
City Care is currently spending 1%
of revenue on staff training, up from
0.8% in the prior year. This equates
to $1130 per employee per year.
Currently more than 100 staff are
in trades training towards National
Certificates at Level 3 or above,
effectively apprentices in historical
terms. Many are expected to
complete their qualification in the
next year.
The company has also continued
to develop its management training
modules, with a full succession
pool completing all courses, and
managers and supervisors attending
top up training as required.
Staff Satisfaction
Each November City Care carries
out a staff satisfaction survey. While
a wide range of options are sought
through a range of questions,
each year we ask staff to indicate
their general level of employment
satisfaction on a scale of 1 to 10.
Last year the average satisfaction
rating was 7.40, up from 6.98 in the
prior year (FIG.10. below).
